QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous aide or substitute teaching experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to assist with instructional activities
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
- Works well with students, staff, parents and the public
- Excellent organizational skills

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TO
Classroom Teacher, Office staff and Building Principal
JOB SUMMARY
Follow the directions outlined by the regular teacher in achieving the educational goals and objectives of all students through individual, small group, or whole group instruction in the absence of the classroom teacher.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with Students
- Maintain high academic standards and expectations
- Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information
- Maintain as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned
- Assist students in locating prescribed instructional materials and starting their assignments
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips
- Consults as appropriate with the building administrator or department head before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the teacher’s plans
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during recess periods as assigned by the building administrator
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Seek assistance should emergencies arise
- Represent the school district in a positive manner
- Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
- Completes a written report for the absent teacher on the day’s activities at the conclusion of each teaching day
- Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates
- Leaves the room in an orderly condition, with all supplies and equipment returned to proper storage area
- All equipment is to be turned off
- Performs the regular teacher’s lunch or recess duties
- Reports any major disciplinary problems to the building administrator
- Performs all other duties as assigned

Compensation
The daily rate for a substitute is $120 per day and $60 per half day.
Background Check
A background check through the State Department of Education must be submitted prior to employment. Two forms of identification will be required (drivers license and social security card).The fee for the background check is $28.25, payable to: Idaho State Dept. of Ed. The fingerprinting for the background check is conducted at the District Office, by appointment only .
Terms of Employment
This position shall be considered in all respects “employment at will”. The “employment period” and other descriptions and terms set forth in this job description shall not create a property right for the employee. These are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the district so long as the employment continues.
